Fundraisers of the Month: Vidhi and Polly

780 400 Gabrielle Devine

This month, we’ve been overwhelmed with incredible fundraising efforts from our brilliant supporters. This month, we’re sharing Vidhi and Polly’s stories with you. Their hard work and dedication has been inspirational, helping us spread many more smiles to seriously ill children and their families.

Vidhi’s Birthday Fundraiser

Vidh

For her ninth birthday, Vidhi chose to fundraise for Spread a Smile in support of our Intensive Care Library Project. Vidhi dedicated herself to the cause by skipping, selling cupcakes, and approaching local businesses to get them involved, raising an incredible £5,725 to fund books to for our libraries at our NHS hospital partners.

Vidhi told us, “I was eight when I skipped, I baked and worked extremely hard to help children in hospital. Together with over 1,000 supporters and close to 400 donors, we raised over £5,725!

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the many happy faces when the books are delivered. I want to carry on, grateful for how good it feels to make a difference.”

Polly’s Plod

Polly's Plod

Polly raised an amazing £2,600 by plodding over 40 miles throughout August. She exceeded her goal of a mile a day, pushing herself whenever her energy levels allowed and we loved seeing how she got on across the month.

Polly’s mum shared this message with us: “We have been lucky enough to experience the impact of Spread a Smile first hand and will be forever grateful to the charity for giving Polly her smile back in times where it felt like her smile would never return.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you for plodding alongside Polly, both literally and metaphorically.”

Thank you to Vidhi, Polly and their families for their wonderful support and for going the extra mile to raise so much to spread smiles to seriously ill children in hospital.

Sweet fundraising success

As a charity, we rely on generous companies and individuals to fund our work and are grateful to all of our brilliant fundraisers who use their talents and energy to raise vital funds for our work spreading smiles to seriously ill children and young people.

Jess, aged 9 raised an incredible £236 for Spread a Smile after being introduced to the charity by her Dad, Shaun Simons.

Shaun told us, “Jess wanted to raise money to help others and came up with the fundraising idea herself, deciding that a sweet stall outside our home would be a fun and effective way to do it.

“I have been involved with Spread a Smile for a while as Chair of their Real Estate Committee and Jess has always admired the charity’s work. There was no doubt in her mind that this was the charity she wanted to support, knowing what an amazing cause it is.

I’m immensely proud of the initiative Jess took and I hope it inspires other young people to think of creative ways to support good causes. She did everything herself, picking, packing and selling the sweets and it was a brilliant achievement.”

A huge thank you to Jess for all her hard work and support – you’re a superstar.

Fundraising to support children like Isaac

780 400 Susie

We’re so grateful to every one of our fundraisers who do so much to help raise funds to ensure we can continue spreading smiles to the families we support.

Recently Once in a Lifetime Holidays chose to fundraise to help spread smiles through a challenge packed tour of Europe, with a little boy called Isaac as their motivation, raising £1,355 so far.

“In June 2020 Isaac aged 3 was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour. He spent many months during COVID in Great Ormond Street Hospital with only one of his parents allowed to be present. The two of them were isolated from the outside world, facing the most terrifying ordeal. Isaac underwent operations, chemotherapy and stem cell therapy and his care was excellent, however it was the team at Spread a Smile that really brought a smile to his gorgeous face at the most awful time.

“Isaac is the most amazing young boy, and his mum is nothing short of a superhero and we wanted to raise money to help other children and families smile during these very difficult times.

“So, the Team at Once in a Lifetime Holidays along with several other colleagues from the travel industry decided to take on a tour of Europe, undertaking challenges and events enroute to raise as much money as possible for Spread a Smile.

“Seeing Isaac smile is a gift, and we hope to help Spread a Smile spread even more smiles to seriously ill children and their families as well.”

Thank you to everyone at Once in a Lifetime Holidays and their colleagues for supporting Spread a Smile and children like Isaac. We couldn’t do what we do without you.
