Since 2013, Spread a Smile has brought joy and hope to seriously ill children and their families through bedside visits, events, virtual activities and art sessions in hospitals, hospices and at home. We are incredibly grateful to the trusts and foundations whose support enables our work. From small one-off donations to long-term major partnerships, grants are crucial to sustaining and growing our activity: we receive no statutory funding. Unrestricted funding in particular is invaluable, as it allows us to develop our strategy and remain flexible to the changing needs of the children we support.
‘Spread a Smile is an amazing charity that constantly brings smiles to children’s faces. It has brought so much fun and laughter to the children and their families. The service they provide for us is invaluable. Thank you for all the amazing work you do.’ – Jamie Lee Phillipson, Play Specialist Team Lead, Nottingham Children’s Hospital
Impact and Reporting
- We are committed to evaluating the impact of our work.
- We report openly and honestly about the funding we receive and tailor our reports to the interests and objectives of each partner.
- We set clear outcomes which we aim to achieve, and regularly review the impact of our services. We evaluate our work through independent studies, and conduct annual surveys of parents and carers.
- We encourage, and actively seek, feedback at every level and from all stakeholders and share learnings with our hospital partners so that together we can develop our services to ensure we remain beneficiary focused and beneficiary led.
We would be delighted to invite trustees and representatives from trusts or foundations to meet with us and hear directly from our Services team about how they make a difference, and to speak to you about Spread a Smile’s ambitious plans for the future and how you might be able to support us.

“My daughter has some very low days where she does not have many friends, so to see her beaming smile whilst she is with you melts my heart.”
