Easter Tea Party at Corinthia London

We were delighted to welcome 80 guests to the beautiful Corinthia London for a special family celebration, filled with creativity, laughter and unforgettable moments together.

The afternoon began with welcome drinks, before families were invited into the gorgeous Ballroom to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea. Tables were filled with an array of treats, creating the perfect setting for families to relax and spend quality time together in a luxurious and welcoming space.

Throughout the event, our brilliant entertainers brought lots of smiles and laughter. Singers Collette and Rosie filled the Ballroom with wonderful singing, while Mr Magic and Sacha amazed children and grown-ups alike with their performances. We also had Fairy Francesca entertaining our young guests, as well as face and arm painting, with children choosing whichever designs they wanted.

There was no shortage of hands-on activities for our guests to enjoy. From an Easter Egg Hunt to creative craft stations, children decorated Easter bonnet hats, treasure boxes, tote bags and biscuits, taking home their creations as keepsakes from the day. It was great to witness such beautiful creations and creativity from our guests.

Events like this provide young patients, their parents, carers and siblings with precious time away from the pressures of hospital life, offering moments of joy, connection and respite when they are needed most.

We are incredibly grateful to the team at Corinthia London for hosting us so generously and for helping to create such a memorable experience for the families we support.

FLOWERBX afternoon tea at Corinthia London

Spread a Smile is delighted to be the beneficiary charity of an exciting collaboration between FLOWERBX and our partners, Corinthia London.

Whitney Bromberg Hawkings, founder and CEO of FLOWERBX, and Corinthia London’s executive pastry chef Yago Doamo have paired their creative skills and devised a selection of strikingly beautiful desserts which will mark the Chelsea Flower Show and celebrate the approach of Summer.

The distinctive and delicious desserts have been inspired by Whitney and the stunning flower range at the FLOWERBX in-house shop at Corinthia London. They combine individual, visually impactful floral motifs with seasonal spring-into-summer ingredients, such as strawberries and blueberries, lavender and lemon, chocolate and salted caramel.

Alongside a selection of finger sandwiches, tea blends and other treats, the desserts will form part of the afternoon tea service at Corinthia London in the Crystal Moon Lounge from 2 May-29 May 2024, with £10 from every tea being donated to Spread a Smile.

To further mark the season’s floral theme at Corinthia London, FLOWERBX have created dazzling large paper flowers to adorn the Crystal Moon Lounge and the Foyer of the hotel. This impressive floral installation will feature delicate colourful paper flowers, and there will also be a large floral tree in the Foyer adorned with the striking individual flowers which can be purchased to take away, with the proceeds donated to the Spread a Smile.

A very special party for our families

Last Saturday we welcomed over 100 of children and families we support to a special Spread a Smile Party, generously hosted by our friends at Corinthia London.

It was a truly magical day out for everyone who joined us, with our guests enjoying a special visit from Father Christmas, magic, facepainting and the chance to meet Thomas the Therapy Dog, Santa’s elves and our beautiful Christmas tree fairy.

There was so much to do and see, with a delicious afternoon tea, hot chocolate, cookie decorating, bauble making, Christmas card crafts and graffiti art, nail painting and more. It really was a day to remember full of festive fun and activities.

Days out like this mean a huge amount to the families we support. We know that everyone in a family is deeply affected by the illness of a child or sibling. Spread a Smile’s outings, events and activities aim to support young patients, their parents, carers and siblings and bring moments of respite, joyful experiences and enduring memories at the most challenging of times.

As the parent of one of the children we support said, “I just wanted to say a massive thank you for our amazing experience on Saturday. It really was a wonderland, and it was so special for us to spend some one-to-one time together as her brother has been going through treatment for 2.5 years, so as you can imagine time together doing lovely things has been very little. Everyone was so welcoming and went out of their way to make her so happy.”

A big thank you to the Corinthia London for their wonderful support and for helping to make our families so welcome. This very special partnership is making a real and positive impact for our families and we can’t thank them enough for their support.

The Butterfly Tree - Corinthia London

The Butterfly Tree – Corinthia London

Butterflies are a beautiful symbol of hope and joy and our friends at Corinthia London installed a beautiful Butterfly Tree at the hotel to support Spread a Smile.

Created by McQueen’s Flowers, The Butterfly tree stood in the reception of the Corinthia London during May and June, inviting guests and visitors to choose butterflies from the branches in exchange for a donation to Spread a Smile.

It was such a wonderfully, creative way of spreading awareness about Spread a Smile’s work and raising vital funds to help ensure we can continue to spread smiles to even more seriously ill children and young people.

The Corinthia London team announced Spread a Smile as its first charity partner in May this year and since then have been planning and developing various support and fundraising initiatives and activities for the coming months.

Thomas Kochs, Managing Director of Corinthia London said, “When we were first introduced to Spread a Smile and met their incredible team, we immediately recognised how rare and meaningful their work is and the impact Spread a Smile has on the lives of the children and families they touch. As a team at Corinthia London, we felt that this will be the perfect partnership and charity for us to support.”

Corinthia Family TeaEarlier this month Corinthia London invited two of the young people we support and their families to visit the Hotel and see the tree for themselves. It was such a special afternoon full of so much warmth with our VIP guests choosing their own butterflies from the tree to take home before sitting down with their families for an incredible 5-star afternoon tea.

“We had such a wonderful day at Corinthia London. The Butterfly Tree is so beautiful, and Aditi loved looking at it and choosing her own butterfly. Having the opportunity to do things like this, as a family, means the world to us. In amongst all of the other worries, we are so grateful to have these wonderful opportunities. Working with partners such as Corintha London makes a positive impact on our Spread a Smile’s ability to reach even more seriously ill children and young people at times when joy and laughter is most needed.

Today sees the launch of an incredible new partnership with Corinthia London, one of the top luxury hotels in the heart of London.

Earlier this month, our Chief Executive Lucy Jackson was delighted to visit the Corinthia team to talk more about how we will be working together to develop the first charity partnership for this wonderful hotel.
