A big well done to Charlie Hardcastle and Tracy Brown who did a great challenge at the Great South Run last Sunday. Charlie and Tracy said:

“We’re running Great South Run to raise money for Spread a Smile because they have done so much for Lily and her family.” Read about Lily here

Their support really does make such a difference to so many brave children just like Lily.

Smile Heroes’ Royal Parks success

1024 768 Jodi Montlake
Thank you to our 30 #SmileHeroes who took on the Royal Parks Half Marathon challenge on Sunday 10 October and each successfully completed the 13.1 mile course around Hyde Park, Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens.
Their combined efforts raised in excess of £30,000 which will enable us to provide more play activities and entertainment to critically ill children at this time.
One team member, Jez Allinson (aka the Running Stormtrooper) commented, “Thanks for such a great day. I’ve got to tell you, I’ve run for many charities and none of them come close to how Spread a Smile makes their supporters feel. The charity doesn’t need flashy tents when they do the lovely gestures that they do. From personalised chocolate, a Christmas card whilst I was in Afghanistan. Spread a Smile is my favourite charity to raise money for. No other charity comes close.”  In 2020 Jez, an RAF pilot, ran 1,000 miles dressed as a Stormtropper in aid of Spread a Smile.  After Sunday’s race Jez will be retiring the costume.

Golf Days at Brocket Hall

1024 683 Jodi Montlake

The Spread a Smile Golf Days took place at The Melbourne Club, Brocket Hall, in Hertfordshire at the end of last week.

A mix of cloud, rain, wind and sun couldn’t dampen our golfers’ spirits and they played on – no one could be accused of being a fair-weather golfer!

Thank you to all our golfers and everyone who made our golf days such a success including our sponsors Masthaven, Opticore and Melburg and our tee sponsors, Canary Wharf Contractors, LMAC Group, Engage, Metrus, Blink, HW Fisher and McGarth.  Also thanks to our professional, Tony Healy, the events team and groundsmen at The Melbourne Club, VPAR and all those who donated their time, services and products including Parks Candles and Sopwell House.  Your support has enabled us to spread many more smiles to critically ill children under the care of our NHS partners.

Daniel Abrahams at Memery Crystal Ltd commented below.

“A quick thank you for another fantastic Spread a Smile golf day. We were imperiously looked after, as ever, and the weather was amazingly kind given the forecast. The entertainers were also brilliant and very good at telling the charity’s story. Well done!”

Email fundraising@spreadasmile.org for information on our next golf event in 2022.

Westfield to Westfield Walk

1024 576 Jodi Montlake

We had a brilliant time at the Westfield to Westfield Walk on (9th September) where we joined circa 150 members of the URW UK’s finance team on their 13-mile walk between the two shopping centres.

The walk was arranged to celebrate the easing of lockdown and to welcome everyone back from their summer holidays.

We are so grateful to them for selecting our charity and for helping us to spread smiles to seriously ill and hospitalised children.

Thanks to Lola’s Cupcakes for sweetening the journey and providing some refreshments along the way.

About the challenge

  • The event was on the 9th of September 2021.
  • One walk of circa 13 miles (half a marathon!) or three separate smaller walks.
  • Teams of approximately six to eight people set off at staggered times between 9.30 am and finishing (they hope) by 5 pm.
  • Points of interest along the route included two of Spread a Smile’s NHS partner hospitals, the Royal London Hospital and Evelina Children’s Hospital. As well as London landmarks the Olympic Stadium, Tower of London, Millenium Bridge, Big Ben, Buckingham and Kensington Palace and Hyde Park to name a few.

October Fundraising Round Up

1024 768 Jodi Montlake

This September through to October our super supporters have really been pulling out all the stops at so many awesome challenges in aid of  Spread a Smile.

We were overwhelmingly inspired by our 30 fabulous runners who took part in the picturesque Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday 10 October raising a whooping amount of approximately £26k.

On Sunday 17 October an intrepid bunch of 10 from our corporate supporter Hain Daniels took part in the Cambridge Half Marathon.

The sun was shining when Charlie Hardcastle and Tracy Brown took part in the Great South Run on Sunday 17 October. They both said: “We’re running The Great South Run to raise money for Spread a Smile because they have done so much for Lily and her family.”

Not to forget those that took part in The Virgin Money London Marathon. You can read more about it on the link.

Teddy Bears’ Picnic

630 340 Jodi Montlake

We cannot describe how happy we were to host our first face-to-face event this year. The Teddy Bears’ Picnic was held on a wonderful summer’s day at Coram’s Fields on Wednesday 21st July.  With strict covid-19 safety measures and sunscreen in place, we created a fun-packed afternoon to spread smiles with lots of playful teddy bear-themed activities including teddy makeovers and clinics for poorly teddy bears plus, for the children, face painting, arts and crafts, magic shows and balloon modelling.

There was even a special appearance from our very own Buddy Bear who took part in some fun dances with the families.

Jacob (in the image with his mum) said “This was the first party he had ever been to and he absolutely loved the bubbles!” We want to thank all our fabulous partners for their support – Hartley’s, Morrisons Camden, KP Snacks & Pom Bears, Metcalfe Snacks, Marine Ices and Bregal Milestone who gifted a super array of food, drinks and treats for our children to enjoy, making the day even more special.
